Dogs and Cats

Outdoor or Indoor Activity

Ages 5 and Up

Materials Needed:

  • Peanuts
  • Two large jars

Divide group into two teams. One group will be the “dogs” and one group will be the “cats.” A captain must then be assigned to each team. Make it very clear that everyone is to look for peanuts but only the captain may pick them up. Each captain will carry a large jar, one is labeled “cates” the other is labeled “dogs.”

Prior to the party, have peanuts hidden everywhere. At a given signal the hunt will begin. When someone someone finds a peanut, they must back or meow according to which team they are on. They can only bark or meow, they cannot pick the peanut up themselves. Whichever team member is caught cheating in this manner will be automatically disqualified from the game and his team will lose one point. They must patiently wait until the captain can come over and put the peanut in his or her jar. They cannot touch the peanut or carry it over to the captain. With peanuts hidden in obvious places this game gets very loud and exciting. After ten to fifteen minutes, give a signal that the game is now ended. The team with the most peanuts in their jar wins!
